The United World Colleges (UWC) movement offers Afghan students a transformative opportunity to study at prestigious international schools alongside young people from around the world. Each year, the UWC National Committee of Afghanistan opens applications for Afghan youth to join the UWC community through a competitive and fully-funded selection process. Although the application for UWC Afghanistan 2026 has not yet been announced, now is the perfect time to start preparing. Based on last year’s 2025 cycle, students can expect a fully online application process, specific eligibility requirements, and a strong focus on personal values, academic potential, and global-mindedness.
What We Learned from the UWC Afghanistan 2025 Application
Last year, the UWC National Committee of Afghanistan opened applications in September 2024, with a deadline at the end of October. Here's a brief summary of what the application included, which may help you get ready:
Eligibility
- Afghan citizens living in Afghanistan or as refugees in other countries.
- Applicants must not be permanent residents or citizens of countries other than Afghanistan.
- Age limit: Students born between August 1, 2006, and August 15, 2010 were eligible.
- Must have valid Tazkira and Afghan passport.
- Strong English skills were essential, as the process and program are in English.
Application Process
- Entirely online – no need to travel for the initial stages.
- Applicants had to provide personal information, academic history, essays, and recommendations.
- All submissions had to be original and completed by the applicants themselves.
Selection Criteria
Students were selected based on: Intellectual curiosity, Commitment to UWC values, Social skills and teamwork, Emotional resilience and independence, Personal responsibility and integrity, and Academic readiness for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
Parental Consent: Since UWC is a two-year residential program, written parental consent was required.
Logistical Responsibilities
- Selected students were responsible for obtaining visas and travel documents.
- In some cases, students had to travel to other countries to obtain visas due to limited services in Afghanistan.
